Elements of Modern Optics

One Dimensional Longitudinal Wave Animation
WEEK ONE: We begin initial investigations of waves and wave motion
One Dimensional Transverse Wave Animation
WEEK TWO: We finish our investigation of waves and how they relate to optics
Accelerating Charge Field
WEEK THREE: We start a more formal investigation into optics through electromagnetic waves
Electric Field Dipole
WEEK FOUR: Our study of electromagnetic waves ends with a description of light in matter and the index of refraction
Fresnel Refraction
WEEK FIVE: We investigate how light propagates through dense media
Reflection with Sparse Emitters
WEEK SIX: Using our formalism for the propagation of light we will develop a deeper understanding for reflection, transmission, and polarization
Hyperbolic Lens Animation
WEEK SEVEN: We will apply our new understanding to optical systems
Huygens Principle Birefringent
WEEK EIGHT: The course ends with a detailed description of the polarization of light
